The traditional way of preparing matcha originates from the Japanese tea ceremony. For this, you use a matcha bowl, a bamboo whisk (chasen) and a bamboo scoop (chashaku). Place 2 chashaku scoops of matcha (1.5 g) into a matcha bowl and add 100 ml of hot water (70°C). Hold the chasen and whisk the matcha vigorously from the wrist using an M-shaped motion, rather than in circles. After about 20 seconds, your bowl should be topped with a perfect layer of jade-green foam. You can then add more water if you prefer a less intense matcha.
